There are a few things I despise about making these smoothies.
There are So. Many. Steps. Almond milk, wait, I need a new jug of almond milk, better walk to the fridge downstais and get more. Then nut butter, but not until after the berries, annd the flax or chia seeds, or everything will stick to the measuring cups. Then spinach. Oh but wait, we need more spinach, better walk back to the basement freezer again for the spinach. And you smarty pants are probably thinking "why wouldn't you just make sure you have everything you need before you start, or better yet, the night before?" And I will tell you why. It's because I'm not that good.
The noise that a Vitamix makes is overstimulating anytime, but at 5:30 in the morning it puts me extra close to the edge. I have someone mitigated this by listening to an audiobook just a bit louder, but the thing is still damn loud.
The freaking cups are in a stupid place. Our current kitchen is much smaller than out last house, and everything is packed tight. Every morning when I pull out the smoothie cups, a bunch of other cups fall out.
All that to say, I have been making smoothies for Ryan and I for breakfast for sixish years, and I probably won't ever stop. Before smoothies, my breakfast was usually something like a hardboiled egg and a granola bar. If I was feeling fancy and prepared ahead, I may have had yogurt and granola or some overnight oats. But the smoothies are so much better for me. They're packed with protein, and veggies, but you wouldn't even know that when you taste them. They are actually so good. The kids always turn up their noses at the smoothies, until they actually try it. But then they want me to make it for them because "they're so much work." Valid, but no. Make your own smoothie kids.
They also keep me full for hours. I have my smoothie on my way to work, around 7:30-8:00. I can easily go until 1 o'clock to eat lunch.
There are also many different recipes. Feeling fall? Pumpkin spice or apple pie. Summer? Pineapple-Coconut, or maybe Peach? You can't go wrong with Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana.
So do something good for yourself, make a smoothie for breakfast. But be prepared to be slightly annoyed while doing so.
